We are thrilled to announce the 25th President of our Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga (RCKV) Jacqueline Duniah. This significant event took place on Friday, June 21, marking a memorable evening for all who attended. Glitz, glamour and charity filled the roomed as this evening could easily be mistaken for a Hollywood red carpet event.
A Night to Remember
The 25th President Installation Night in Kigali was a grand celebration, attended by Rotarians, Rotaractors, government officials, friends, family, and prospective members. The evening was a testament to the club’s growing influence and commitment to community service, highlighted by the induction of several new members. The memorable event was held at the serene Kigali Serena Hotel. What an amazing venue as well as exceptional service.
Our Club’s Legacy
RCKV was chartered in 2000, thanks to the dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment of many Rotarians, including past President Cally Alles, often regarded as the father of the club. Over the years, we have been at the forefront of numerous impactful initiatives. Our main project for this year is supporting the Shenge Children Organization (SCO), a Christian Humanitarian Organization dedicated to helping children with disabilities from vulnerable families and communities nationwide. Our aim is to see these children reach their full potential by ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and the right to life.
A Year of Achievements
Outgoing President Livingstone Nkuusi expressed his pride in the club’s accomplishments during his tenure. “It was quite a successful year for our club,” he remarked. “We parented a new club, the Rotary Club of Kigali Golf, and our membership increased from 62 to 103. We also supported the Cosmopolitan Club by sharing some of our members. Indeed, our club grew.”
One of the most celebrated milestones of Nkuusi’s tenure was building a house for a vulnerable woman in Huye District, referred to as a “Heroic Mother” by the club. This woman saved a child during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi but lacked a decent home. The club bought land, built her a new house, and she now lives in a modern home. The official inauguration of her house is set for June 29.
“I wish the new president the best and hope she continues to benefit from what has been achieved. People should know more about Rotary. Many are still unaware of it. We need to support our government in accomplishing some activities and assist fellow Rwandans at large,” Nkuusi added.
A Vision for the Future
In her inaugural address, President Duniah introduced her new board and outlined her vision for the upcoming year. She emphasized the “Magic of Rotary” and highlighted her commitment to the Shenge Children Organization (SCO). This initiative supports children with disabilities from over 33 families, providing them with access to education, healthcare, and social inclusion.
Duniah also plans to connect experts from abroad, mainly in Singapore, with people suffering from various diseases. These experts will provide services such as cervical cancer screening and eye examinations, sharing knowledge about eye diseases and other health issues.
“Nevertheless, I would like to focus on Shenge and maintaining the daily activities of Kinyinya Rotary House. Our government reminds us to seek self-reliance, and that’s what we’re striving for,” Duniah stated.
