As we embark on our annual retreat, we carry with us the memory of one of our own. Last Friday, August 16th, we laid to rest a legend and angel in our community, Rotarian Titus Tortsea ABONJO. Exactly a year ago, he was with us at our retreat, sharing incredible stories from Nigeria, and reflecting on the remarkable business he and his wife built in Rwanda, along with the impactful work of the Nigerian community in Kigali.
We are deeply overwhelmed by the support from the entire Rotary International, Regional, and Rotary Rwanda community during this time. Your outpouring of love and solidarity has been a source of strength.
In honor of Rtn. Titus, we share this message from our President, Duniah Jacqueline:
In Memory of Rtn Joyful Titus
It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of our dear friend, brother, and fellow Rotarian, Titus. He exemplified the very essence of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” through his tireless dedication, unwavering kindness, and genuine care for others.
For two years in the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga, Rtn. Titus embodied the spirit of Rotary in every endeavor. His efforts have left an indelible mark, not only on our club but on the countless lives he touched through his service in various projects.
Titus was more than a Rotarian; he was a cherished friend and a source of inspiration. As we remember him, let us proudly and passionately carry forward the mission of service, kindness, and community. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit of service will forever remain a guiding light in all that we do.
You have left us with unfinished business and diminished ambitions. You fought a good fight and finished your race heroically. Rest in eternal peace, dear friend. You will be cherished, deeply missed, but never forgotten.
President Duniah Jacqueline
