Earlier this year, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2024 took place on March 22nd and 23rd at the University of Rwanda – College of Science and Technology. Themed ‘Employment and Job Creation for Youth as a Catalyst for Global Peace,’ the event equipped attendees with invaluable lessons and unforgettable experiences.
Highlights of RYLA 2024
The event featured inspiring discussions and activities aimed at empowering youth and fostering leadership. Distinguished guests included:
- Gordon McInally, President of Rotary International
- Dr. Jean Nepo Utumatwishima, Minister of Youth and Arts
- Representatives from the private and public sectors
- Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors
Participants engaged in team-building games, interactive sessions, and fun activities, creating an energizing environment for collaboration and personal growth.
One standout moment came from Dr. Jean Nepo Utumatwishima, who encouraged attendees to “always learn a skill”—a memorable piece of advice urging youth to embrace creativity and problem-solving.
Looking Ahead to RYLA 2025
As we reflect on the success of RYLA 2024, the Rotary Club Kigali Virunga (RCKV) is thrilled to announce preparations for RYLA 2025, scheduled for 8 March, 2025 at Kepler College, Kinyinya in Kigali, Rwanda.
With the theme “Nurturing Innovation and Leadership in Youth,” RYLA 2025 aims to inspire young leaders to create impactful change in their communities.
Pre-Event Highlights:
- Rotary Tour (Starting November 2024): Led by Youth Director Rtn Lily, this tour will visit Rotary Clubs in Rwanda to rally support and engagement for RYLA 2025.
- Mini Retreat (December 6th or 7th): Featuring speakers Rtn Alex, Mellow, Andrew, and Dnoh, this retreat will focus on understanding leadership roles and preparing for RYLA. Other countries will join virtually to foster international collaboration.
Countdown to RYLA 2025
In January 2025, RCKV will launch an online countdown campaign to keep the excitement alive, sharing weekly updates and highlights to maintain momentum.
